Discussion:
Radio wifi problems-MEGATHREAD!

Apologies for the rather dramatic title...but looking around both here
and on the official forum a fair few of us seem to be having problems
with the radio and wifi.

It would be useful I think if people could post their problems or
indeed lack of problems with the radio and it's wifi.

In brief...

2 booms, 1 touch, 1 SB3 all connect, stay connected, stream
individually and in sync without hiccup.

Radio, since a month or so ago, connects and works as it should
intermittently. It has good signal, there is no channel interference.

Yesterday I reset my router and all was good, then this morning synced
all players for radio first to disappear from LMS but was showing as
connected to router but speed was 0 mbps!, Then dropped from router all
together, I guess a reset would get it back again.

Conclusion-issue with radio wifi and not my set up, possibly software
related?

Will crosspost to Logitech forum to see what that brings.

No issues here with my 2 Radios wifi connections. There was a period a
few months ago where I was seeing the red wifi icon frequently and had
to restart the Radio to get connected, but it was around the same time
that I discovered my router's antenna had broken. Since replacing my
antenna, I have not had any wifi connection issues with my Radios. Not
a one.

Router is Buffalo WHR-HP-G54 running Tomato firmware 1.28.

No wifi problems here either with my one Radio. It's connected to an old
Netgear WGR614v3 router, which I have re-purposed as an extra access
point for my Linksys WRT54GL router (running Tomato 1.25 firmware).

I use two radios via wifi with no issues. Obviously, folks can have
network issues, and there are many variables. At the moment at least,
there seems to be no issues related to the radio itself.

I though that but they have different addresses with radio always using
192.168.1.64 and touch using 192.168.1.92.

It is interesting how many people seem to be having problems with radio
and wifi.

Just reset router and radio connects no problem, before it would see
the router with 80% signal but wouldn't connect at all.

Makes me think there is some bug in how it requests ip or some such?

But ... equally there must be many without any problems? They are,
unlike some, probably not going to post saying 'no problems'.

Generally, I find a systematic (but time-consuming) approach to network
problems may help - first, switch off any router encryption, then turn
off all wifi devices. Now, connect radio to network - run for a
reasonable time. If you encounter an issue then you know it's either
the radio or the router. If no issues, then start connecting
additional devices. And so on.

Good luck.

Are you using DHCP ? If so the address are very spread apart and I
would examine the DHCP setrup.

If you are using static addresses (i.e. no DHCP) - I would check the
subnet mask, gateway and DNS address setting in the players as these
need to be setup manually and perhaps they got corrupted in some way.

Not sure, think it's DHCP but also a check box that says always use
this address. Router is BT HH3, not as configurable as some?

Either way - check the various Advanced/Diagnostics settings on your
player, see if there is anything unusual (e.g. Wireless Info, Server
info) and compare mask, gateway and DNS settings with other devices.

OK, reset router...again and connected one at a time.

radio takes 192.168.1.64

laptop takes 192.168.1.65

server takes 192.168.1.66

touch takes 192.168.1.67

SB3 takes 192.168.1.80 and doesn't appear on router devices although is
streaming!

boom takes 192.168.1.68

Reset SB3 which this time took 192.168.1.69 and appears on router
devices

2nd boom takes 192.168.1.70

iphone takes 192.168.1.86-regardless of anything else I do. All now
connected, showing in hub devices and streaming. Will see how long
for!!

Probably worth checking the Always use this address - this should avoid
address conflicts when you switch devices on and off.

UPDATE!!

Ok so all 5 players stream nicely almost all the way through Marillion
Misplaced Childhood...I know, I know!!

Then the radio loses connection on 10/11 tracks. Appears to still be
connected to router but speed is 0 mpbs, curiously it's speed whilst
streaming was 36 whilst others range between 48 & 54. Signal strength
was 75 to 80 %

Here's the weird thing, I go to curse the radio, the red wifi indicator
is present. I mess and try to connect to server, mysb.com, turn off and
on etc radio now disappears from router list all together. But before
it went I could click on info and it was showing an ip of
169.254.83.121 what the ????

Can't tell you how annoying this is, all other wifi devices work
totally fine. Router and radio set back to factory several times, not
sure where I go next?

I have the same issue with my radio, boom and touch never lose the wifi
connection. A reboot of the radio allows it to reconnect and it keeps
working for another period. I am running dhcp using Mac address to fix
the ip address on the radio.

Only thing I can think to try is a fixed ip

This has only happened with the latest firmware.

A few days ago I had problems connecting my Squeezebox Radio to my

Good point. I don't use a true static IP for my Radio, but I do use my
router's "static DHCP" to reserve the same IP address for the Radio at
all times.

UPDATE

So...I reset to factory my router and the radio, reinstalled the latest
radio firmware again and incredibly the radio has behaved impeccably now
for around 60 hours or so. It streams, it turns on/off, it connects to
LMS when my server is turned on and happily sits there when server is
off. Not tried mysb.com but I don't use it anyway.

I don't understand why it wasn't working and don't understand why it
does now, strange that just 1 of my 5 players behaved in such a way?

Could wireless card be loose and by moving radio so it was sat next to
me while I meddled have helped?

Hey ho, as always, many thanks for all contributions!

not sure about the radio WIFI relative to the other players. Back in
time, there were more WIFI issues posted about the duet receiver, which
seemed to me to have the worst WIFI reception. But of course they don't
make it any more and sell more Radios than any other SB player. So I'm
not sure if the "more reported for Radios" means anything other than
there are more radio owners these days.

But anyhow, I think trying to avoid interfering channels is a good
approach. Also make sure the router and radio is not next to microwave,
wireless telephone (I had all kinds of weirdness with my router loosing
connection when using phone until I changed to DECT 6.0 phones), etc.

WIFI is odd, as a few minor tweaks can vastly improve (or make worse)
the WIFI signal.

I've tested my Radio streaming a 320k station with only a 60% WiFi
signal, streamed 24/7 from MySB.com for days without issue.
That is what is odd about the reported Radio WiFi issue, for some it is
a constant & repeatable problem, while others never see the issue.

OK

So I followed Pascal's advice and separated static and DHCP range, gave
all wifi devices nice fixed addresses and monitored. Radio dropped out
as did new laptop that was adjacent to the radio monitoring the wifi
traffic coinciding with when the bizarre trace started as shown on this
picture. Router was on channel 6.

http://www.flickr.com/photos/***@N06/6643620159/in/photostream

I refreshed the router at 10:05pm as on the second picture

http://www.flickr.com/photos/***@N06/6643619991/in/photostream/

Router has an auto select feature that chooses the channel with least
interference, it still remained on 6 after refresh and the radio came
back on line.

Looks like router could be at fault, though nothing shows in log any
ideas?

I'd turn off the auto-channel feature, pick the best ch and stay there.
This alone may be adding to the problem. I'd at least eliminate it from

Yes, and I would set it to channel 1. There is no one else using
channel 1.
Still, the radio signal of the router is very odd.

To solve my own problem I loaded ww-drt onto my 3 Buffalo Access Points,
removed WDS, setup each with the SAME SSID, Security settings and each
on a different channel 1,6 & 11. Both my radios are now working - 22
tracks without interruption (previously lucky to get 4) other one 30. I
would say that the issue IS with the Radios as my other units (Duet &
Touch) worked fine

Just curious, why did you use WDS?

So, after almost 2 days of constant connection the radio decides to drop
off for no apparent reason. Changing channel on router gets it back on
only for it to fall off again. Traffic no different in neighbourhood.

If a new router would solve this I would be happy to spend the money,
but not sure it would.

All other devices, SB3, boom and touch remain rock solid.

Apart from firmware updates to the radio I was trying to think what else
I have changed and remembered that I upgraded my wireless G network to
WPA2 about 1 month ago when I had a rather large unexpected download on
my network. Last night I went back to WPA encryption to see if this
returns the unit to zero network issues.

For the record I have a Netgear WNDR 3700 (or somethink close) and run
a dual wireless network with a G band and N band. I did a check of the
channel, checked all others and moved to a separate channel - made no
difference.

Will report back to see if WPA makes a difference - what encryption do
other run?

I will say getting the unit to change down to a lower level of
encryption and allow a new key to be entered is a right pain.

Does anyone want to try a zero encryption system to see if that makes a
difference?

I have two Radios in the same bedroom, one on each side of the bed.
Both on Wireless connected to my Netgear WNDR4500 Wireless router. One
Radio works flawlessly. The other exhibits the same behaviours reported
in this post with the red wireless icon appearing after a number of
hours of being connected. Both devices show 100% signal when
connected, they are no more than 20 feet from the router. I am running
WPA2-PSK [AES] encryption.

When I get the Red Wireless Icon on the problem Radio and it cannot see
the wireless network I go to my Router and it shows the Radio as a
connected device !!! But the Radio says it is not connected. If I
power down the radio and power it up again it connects and runs for a
couple of hours but then the red wireless icon appears. I assign
static addresses to all my Squeezebox devices also.

Very frustrating issue. I will look again tonight to ensure the setup
on both Radios are identical, if they are I am inclined to junk the
problem radio as it can only be a hardware issue I think (hopefully it
is under warranty, I only bought it in May 2011 I think). I will let
you know once I get home tonight.

Good to know I am not the only suffering this, good also that you have
a 'control' radio that works so we can discard wifi network issues.

I was looking at buying the WNDR4500 as a possible solution to my
problems but it seems that doesn't actually solve it!

Last night I had the radio connected just 4 inches in front of the
router but then it dropped the connection and wouldn't re-connect
without a restart. Same issue as yours in that signal is high and
router shows it as connected but no joy.

Last night a set my old home hub 2 router up as a wireless access point
and connected the radio and only the radio to that.

It worked fine and alarm was good this morning, will see how we go
tonight.

Wonder Boy,

Are you still having this problem now that you are using an old home
hub 2 router as a wireless access point?

I confirmed that both my Radios have the same configuration last night
and this morning the problem radio was showing the red wireless icon
and the symptoms outlined above in this post. I will do a factory
reset on it tonight and if that doesnt help I guess I will need to call
tech support.

I was going to leave it another 24 hours to report. Bur since I set up
the home hub 2 as a slave WAP the connection has been perfect. The hub
is about the same distance from the radio if a little higher up and has
to go through an extra wall. The sig strength is 90% plus every time I
check.

Alarm has triggered two mornings (my server comes on 10 mins before)
and radio has behaved perfectly.

So,can I conclude HH3 and radio are incompatible, or radio doesn't like
any other wifi devices sharing it's signal?

Yes, I would guess though that the BT home hub is one of the most, if
not the most common router in the UK so this could be coincidence and
nothing more.

The most annoying thing for me was that my radio was the only device
affected, my sb3, booms and touch were all fine.

72 hours connected and working fine with slave WAP!!

Just to add to the mix, I have the same with one of my Radios. Two
Booms, 1 Touch, and 1 SB3 all run without issue. The radio
consistently DROPS connections to any router I try. It will work for a
while, then just stop without explanation and in the latest bout -
refuses to work. I've tried with Netgear WNDR3700, WNDR3800, WNDRMAC,
and latest is a Cisco E4200.

The radio is about to take a fall from the 17th floor at the moment.

I'll bring a net!

A few months ago. I was having huge problems with my Radio and a BTHH3.
So I wired the Radio using Homeplugs, which was fine for a few days. My
brother borrowed the Homeplugs to try. I reconnected the Radio via
wireless, and I've not had the slightest problem with it since. Go
figure.

Good Evening,
i got the Squeezebox Radio on X-Mas (about an half Month ago).
Today I surfed through it's preferences and tested the "Fixed Volume"
setting.

The Squeezebox connected to mysqueezebox.com and got verry loud.
Now I'm not anymore able to Adjust the SqueezeboxVolume.

I allready tried to Adjust the Settings by the Local Logitech Server
(The one i set up on my Laptop). Then i tried to adjust the
SqueezeboxVolume on mysqueezebox.com.

Of course I also Reseted the Squeezebox by Software and by holding down
the +(more) Button while plugging in the Squeezebox powerplug.

I also tried to Reinstall the current Firmware on Squeezebox.

Nothing took effect. If i start playing an Livestream etc on the SB
Radio
Volume is at 100% and can't be adjusted =(

How can i get control over my Squeezebox Radio back?

Thanks for Help,
Best Wishes from Germany,
Andi

When it's conected to the local LMS server , on the radio settings >
audio settings > fixed volume , for some absurd reason it then switches
to mysqueezebox.com ? But trynto uncheck it.

I'd contain your excitement if I were you. I've been down this road
*many* times... getting the thing working once again for a short while,
only to find it eventually fails. I've once again managed to get mine
working (this time) but installing a second router as an access point
to which ONLY the Radio is connected.

To add to the frustration trying to diagnose this most recent problem,
the Radio (after connecting to the wifi) refused connection to the LMS.
The Boom sitting right beside me at the time was connected and playing
fine.

I hopped onto the server to find that LMS pref pane wouldn't open, and
there were 5 instances of Perl running. Killed them all and managed to
get things running again. What a hassle though!

As an aside, I can't find the options to switch the Radio between local
and squeezenetwork anywhere in the menu anymore. Have they been
fiddling the menus in latest firmware?

Settings > Advanced > Networking > Switch to mysqueezebox.com. If you
have an IR remote you can press and hold the + button and add this item
to your home menu. I would've thought you could do the same with the +
button on the Radio itself, but I can't on mine!

I've been using my Radio and BTHH3 wirelessly for about 3 months now
with no problems, I think I've won the battle!

Thank you for this fast response!

For some reason i haven't had a checkbox to toggle the Fixed Volume
setting.
I completely removed LMS from my system now and set it up again.

Well I didn't get / enable an checkbox (or similar) "Fixed Volume"
option.
But the SB is working well again.

I 'll avoid "trying" the Fixed Volume again.

Lots of Thanks, for your fast help!

I'm convinced this is a bug the setting only exist on mysqueezebox.com
but are not avaible there ? And it makes no sense on the radio ? i used
fixed volume on my Touch there it makes some sense, as it is conected to
a stereo with it's own volume.

I swear this did not appear in that menu earlier!

Thanks though - found it now. Incidentally just hitting plus (not
holding) allowed me to add it to top menu.

Will see how I get on with this separate access point in place. For
what it's worth, it's the Netgear WNDR3800 with all the other stuff
disabled.

Yeah, you don't want to mess with that feature on the Radio. It is
meant for players with audio outs to a stereo or self powered speakers.
;)

You will have to go into the Radio > Settings > Audio and turn that
off.

The "Switch to MySB.com" menu item only appears when your player is on
LMS, if on MySB it will not be present as a selection (because you are
already on MySB).

That's great if you knew that in advance, but if you don't it's *very*
confusing! Didn't help that the server was obviously in a state and
the Radio kept going to the 'connecting to <server>' screen and sitting
there for ages. Grrrr....

Glad you got sorted with a WAP, but as you say seems a bit extravagant!
I think you may have something here though, my radio would show as
connected to the router occasionally but it wouldn't connect to the
server?

It makes me wonder if the problem could be buried deep in LMS somewhere
especially as for me this issue is only a recent one, my last LMS update
was 12/12/11...hmmmmmmm.

To update - unit has been a lot more stable, it still drops out but
over the last week it has happened twice and not every day as I was
getting with WPA2.

Ok, so I reset the Radio using the menu option and reconfigured the
network settings including encryption key, etc. The unit continued to
have problems. I then reset it by unplugging it, turning it off and
then powering it on why holding down the + button. Not sure if that
reset technique does anything different but after reseting the unit
this way and reconfiguring the network, things have been good for
nearly a week now. Fingers crossed it is good now and there was some
gremlin in the code somwhere. Weird but so far so good.

Running WPA network rather than WPA2, the unit has not had any issues
now for nearly 2 weeks. I had the initial red wireless signal and slow
menus twice as reported but for the last week it has been the old unit
is always was.

Anyone else want to try this fix to see if it helps or has adding a new
wireless network setting somehow created a good installation and save of
the necessary SSID and password. I could change my encryption again back
to WPA2 but would rather someone else change down to see if it helps
them.

Any one trying to use channel 13 or 14 I would not recomend that, there
is a bug stick to 1-11 or rather 1-6-11.
radio has an automatic wifi region detection that does not really work
so use those channels that is avaible everywhere.

Also if your router is automatically changing channels turn that of to
and stick to the challe that works best

I've only ever run WPA2+AES, never had a problem.

FYI: The Radio (and all SB players) do remember the passphrase for
each encryption type so it is relatively easy to switch between types
of encryption.

This is the first issue I have had with the radio and it is was driving
me crazy.

I am just trying to understand why, my question was more to people that
have had this issue with the wifi.

When you say channels 1-11 or 1-6-11 do you mean only those channels?
Or any between?

Sorry I missed the reboot sequence that was spoken about, can someone
please tell me as I also did a factory reset to get back to WPA network
- and maybe that is a factor? I would like to return to WPA2 as it is
more secure. I know the unit is meant to remember and I have the same
passphrase for both WPA and WPA2 but getting the unit to go back to WPA
and connect was nearly impossible - ended up doing a factory reset.

My touch was a lot easier, after 1 try it just asked for the code
again.

1, 6, 11 ONLY. (if possible) as those are the only channels that don't

I have two squeezebox radios and a duet with controller. In my setup I
have the duet receiver and one of the radios connected via ethernet and
everything works as expected. I have the duet controller connected via
wifi, and that works as expected. However, I cannot get either radio to
stay connected via wifi. When I do a factory reset and go through the
setup process the radio will connect (as verified on screen of the
radio with the white wifi symbol, as well as from the console of my
wireless infrastructure), but once I've gone through a few more setup
screens the wifi symbol on the screen shows blue and my console shows
the radio no longer connected. This happens every single time without
fail, and additionally, the radio becomes incredibly slow and takes as
much as five seconds to respond to a single click or wheel rotation.
I'm pretty sure the issues are related - the radio does not slow down
when connected via ethernet. Has anyone else seen this combination of
issues?

I'm running:
-LMS Version: 7.5.4 - r32171
-Operating system: Synology DiskStation (DSM Package Management)
-Platform Architecture: X86
-Radio firmware: 7.5.4 r9408
-Hardware version: 5

Wireless setup:
-SSID is broadcast
-I have tried WPA and WPA2, as well as temporarily turning off all
encryption
-Signal strength is 100% (according to radio diagnostic screen)
-I have an IP address (according to the radio diagnostic screen), but
can't ping it from other devices

Toby - IP address assignment is handled by DHCP. The DHCP server does
not show another device with the same IP address, and when the radio is
off I cannot ping that IP address (telling me that nothing else on the
network is using that IP, either). The slowdown of the radio tells me
it's a problem with the radio itself. I don't know if the slowdown of
the radio software/UI is a cause or a symptom of the loss of network
connectivity. That's what I'm hoping others will have some input on.

Dunno, slow response and eventual disconnect from network is often a
duplicate IP issue. Guess not in your case.
Sure no other security features are enabled? Limit on number of
devices allowed? MAC filtering? Etc..
Your SSID is a unique name? WiFi devices are not connecting to your
neighbors WiFi?

I use WPA2+AES for my WiFi Radio, never disconnects and all control
responses are snappy.

Hi Toby - Yes, I double checked to ensure it wasn't a duplicate IP
problem. In fact, I even hardcoded a known unique IP on the radio and
ran into the same problem. There's no security on the network aside
from the encryption on the wireless. Everything else on the network
connects just fine. The SSID is unique - in fact I temporarily created
a new SSID with no encryption and had the same result. I am wondering
if it's a firmware issue. What version of LMS and radio firmware are
you running successfully with WPA2? Is there a way to force a
particular version on to my radio? Also, is there a way to view some
useful debugging information on the radio's screen aside from the
diagnostic page? I would ssh into the radio, but once I lose network
connectivity, that's not going to work.

Some of us feel your pain squeezemonkey! For me as owner for some 4
years of 4 different SB products this was the most frustrating.

Hard to analyse/prove and made more annoying as people running very
similar set ups have no problem.

Mine is working with a second router acting as a WAP just 6 feet away
from the first router to which the radio enjoyed a turbulent love hate
relationship. My other 4 devices have a love love relationship with
this first router!

No rhyme or reason, I agree with you think it is a firmware issue that
only causes issues in certain conditions.

Good luck...I think we need it!

For some reason my radio was more stable on WPA than WPA2, but other
have zero issues on any system. I agree this has been my biggest issue
with Slim devices and I have had 2 SB3, still have a boom working and
have replaced the SB3 with a touch. I only got the issue with the last
update but at the same time I change my network to WPA2 as well. In
moving back I got a lot less network drop outs. No idea why and this is
the only difference.

I finally gave up and for another reason I set up a powerline network
in my house using netgear AV+ 200 units - I purchased a second unit and
plug the radio into that using CAT6 - the radio has now been so
reliable, always has a network connection, alarm works every morning as
it should and the weather is always correct. I am now again enjoying the
radio without having to check it each night.

My radio was working quite smooth for about 3 months, yet, when the
alarm did not wake me up I noticed that the network has issues.

Why the hell there is no indication on the panel that there is a
network issue??? some icon logitech??

No network configuration changes, I have HTC Flyer, Nexus S, Samsung
S2, iPod Touch, iPad, two laptops - all connected nicely to the
network.

Just that bloody Radio could not connect.
I removed the power cable and replaced it again. After reboot, it
connected, but noticed again next morning that alarm did not work..
Did same procedure again today - removed the power cable for couple of
minutes.. Now it is working, the question is for how long..

Obviously there is a bug in Radio firmware..

Is it possible to operate some health check periodically and put some
indication if there is an issue with network connection?

WiFi icon is only present when the Radio is turned on.
E.g. when it is in its normal state - showing date/time - I do not see

I haven't used the alarm clock feature on mine since I'm retired, but
now I'm curious... Are there built-in sounds you can use that don't
rely on a network connection? Can you use a built-in sound as an
automatic backup to a radio station (or whatever) if the network goes
down?

Yes, I understood, but I do not see any symbol when the Radio displays
the clock. I need to press on 'Power' to turn it on and check..

I see the big digits of the current time with a small icon of alarm,
and below I see the current date. c'est tout

oh yes it has a very well known backup sound :) search the forum,
people not fond of funk/disco style music in the morning have hacked it
to replace the backup sound....

In the choice of two bad things they gone for waking you up in a bad
mode instead of not at all.
The backup is triggered by real problems ok. But also by bugs and
design shortcomings in their server client system, such as the bug when
the clock is not in exact sync with the server or mysb.com will of
course trigger the backup alarm

Maybe use something that pulls info from the internet when it's "off"?
Like the weather app. That's what I use and it displays temp, humidity,
cloud cover, etc and that is from the internet. I haven't tried it, but
I wonder if something very obvious would happen on the screen if the
internet/network connection went down.

So, the alarm would immediately go off if/when someone's network lost
link? I've never noticed the time being "off" on my SBR.

It would be if you disconnected it from the server for a while. It
needs the server (LMS or MySB.com) to obtain and check it's time.
The Touch player was documented to be as much as 5 minutes off after
seven days in standalone mode using it's own internal server (no LMS or
MySB server connection).

Interesting. A cheapo quartz digital watch is much, much more accurate
than that. So, this thing really can't even keep accurate time on it's

Many would agree. ;)

I, personally, have zero interest in having yet another clock in my
midst via music streaming devices. I have more unwanted clocks in my
home then I care to even think about. My kitchen alone has FOUR clocks
built into appliances. Silly and annoying IMO.

That said, I know others like having the clock and alarm function
(another aspect I've no interest in) on these devices, so accurate time
is important for those who do desire such functions. Why no accurate
real time clock mechanism was not included in the Touch & Radio I do
not know. The more hardware/software knowledgeable users here will
have to chime in on that one. Could be simply a cost-to-implement
issue, dunno.

I just use the alarm on my cell phone on the rare occasions I have to

Any comment or solution from Logitech on this? Seems to me that the
Radio cannot gracefully reconnect to the WiFi network once it loses it's
connection, particularly if people are using WPA2. Clearly people are
able to connect to the WiFi network initially (for the most part) but if
the WiFi connection is interrupted temporarily for any reason the Radio
gets confused and cannot re-establish the connection once the WiFi
network is available again. This has been my experience and
interestingly my Router will show the Radio as connected but the Radio
has the red icon. I don't have this problem with my BOOM on WiFi,
perhaps Logitech can check the firmware between the two models in terms
of what happens when the WiFi connection is dropped how the connection
is re-established particularly with WPA2. Common Logitech please look
at this, you are selling a product that clearly does not work as
advertised.

I experienced this very recently as well (last week or so, I needed to
reboot even the Radio and then to reconnect manually)

The problem is not universal to all users so this makes tracking down &
fixing the issue much more complex. I use WPA2+AES and my Radio (plus
all my other SB players) reconnect just fine without me having to touch
the players.

Couple of ideas.....
- are you waiting long enough for the reconnection?
- tried playing the Radio even when it displays a red WiFi icon?
- using a fixed WiFi ch?

Agree with Toby10 here. I have a radio, using WPA2 wifi connected. It's
a weekend place, so router, etc. is off except when there. Once router
turned on, radio power button pushed ("on"), then radio reconnects
automatically to WIFI (and remembers that it is synched with the TOUCH
player). And then remains on/connected for at least 12 hours a day for
two or three days in a row. (that is, I use controller or ipeng to
pause/stop music playing at some point during the day, but radio never
loses its connection).

p.s. This forum is for users talking to other users. If you want to
communicate with logitech about this, I suggest:

1. posting at their official squeezebox forums:
http://forums.logitech.com/t5/Squeezebox-Players/bd-p/squeezeboxplayers
2. contacting support directly with phone or email
3. filing a bug at bugs.slimdevices.com
(although I suspect there may be a bug filed on this, so best to simply
find it and then vote on it).

#2 will be your best bet if you are actually wanting a logitech
response.

Same here. I use WPA2 and my SBR always reconnects after
unplugging/plugging back in the modem/router every so often to clear the
memory. Heck, I don't even know what kind of modem/router it is. It's
just whatever stock hardware Centurylink gave us when they set up our
internet account.

garym-thanks, radio was static IP for a couple of days, but still
dropped and couldn't re-connect on it's own. Will have a look at
logging this.

bobertuk-interesting comments, HH3 is not bad on the whole, we are in a
bungalow with the hub in the centre of the building, I would guess radio
is about 20ft away from router. The one you bought looks a beast of a
router, I had a netgear for a couple of years and it was excellent, but
last January I too went with BT infinity hence the hub.

My Radio also works flawless. Being the owner of several different
devices (SB3, SB Boom, SB Touch and SB Radio) I can say that the wifi
radio used in the SB Radio is a very good one. It is the device that
sits the furthest away from my Access Point but it has the best signal
strength of all SB devices.

Reading through this post, I strongly believe you are experiencing
network issues. I guess you have a few devices in your network with
static IP addresses while others use DHCP. It is very well possible
that your IP address pool in the DHCP server overlaps with the static
IP address range in use. That can cause IP address conflict at random
(probably due to DHCP lease renewals).
You should be able to see the logs of your DHCP server when devices
request an IP renewal. If you start to experience connectivity issues
when those renewals occur then that would confirm that you have an
overlap between your static IP address pool and your DHCP IP address
pool.

You are using IP addresses in the 192.168.1.XXX range and this is a
range that is widely used by network devices as a default. I guess your
subnet mask is 255.255.255.0. I would advice to set your DHCP pool
starting from 192.168.1.201 to 192.168.1.250. Then reboot all devices
in your network and monitor for issues again.

Only just seen this thread so sorry for the late reply.

I had the same problems when using a BT HH3 - wireless connection
dropping almost every day. Needed to reboot the hub to get Radio back
onto network. Tried all sorts of things to 'cure' the problem but in
the end gave up and swapped out the HH3 for a Netgear router - Netgear
WNDR4500 in my case as I have BT Infinity. Haven't had the problem
since!

Had other disconnection issues with the HH3 as well. It looks pretty
but does seem a bit (very?) flakey.

I've read many, many posts indicating SB problems because of BT HH3
that were solved with a new router.

Thanks for your reply. Radio dropped twice since posting my update for
no obvious reason, would there be a log of this anywhere, nothing in
router log?

Now trying ethernet which I can do easily but so annoying!

Router is next to a phone but has been for more than a year and radio
only recently developed issues.

Also, no other wifi devices fail like the radio does. Interesting
reading how many people have very similar issues to me where their
other players are robust but the radio drops often and refuses to
re-connect without a reboot of router and player.

Yep, probably not the phone. I think at least temporarily trying
ethernet for a bit will at least be a good test that it is in fact the
WIFI and not something else with the Radio.

The two radios I use are both WIFI and it is interesting that both of
them report fairly poor (less then 80% strength) even though they are
within 10 feet of a WIFI AP. But this said, I don't have any problems
with them dropping signal or turning off etc. One of these is synched
to my main player and is on probably 7 or 8 hours per day, month in and
month out. I've used 7.5.4 through 7.7.1 on these radios (currently
everything is on 7.7.1).

But one other thing. I set both of my radios (actually all my SB
players) up to have static IP addresses (not just "reserved" IP
addresses within my router). Not sure if that matters at all, and
probably shouldn't, but it is something that is perhaps different on my
RADIO use.

in your SbS/LMS Settings, set the logging level (advanced tab in
settings) to debug for your server log. Then after it has some
dropouts, go in to the Settings > information tab, bottom of page and
look at your server log.

So...after some apparent success things are back to how they were.
Yesterday the radio hung so I re-connected but this time with a static
IP address and all was good.

This afternoon it dropped off again for no obvious reason. It wouldn't
re-connect to LMS (Touch, SB3, Booms never faltered) but was showing as
connected in the router, albeit at 0 mbps!

Using inSSIDer there are one or two users on channels 1, 6 and 11 near
me so now trying channel 9. I know it gets overlap but I will try it.
Failing this I will need to ethernet the radio.

Other devices fine, and there does seem to be more threads here and
elsewhere discussing radio wifi issues than any other player.

Recent smart meter install? Mine was running fine and then I had
immediate trouble when the electric company installed those BS "smart
meters" that wirelessly transmit data on everyone's power usage.
Thankfully, it somehow "fixed" itself after a couple of weeks and the
interference went away. Despite the electric company claiming they
didn't cause interference, I KNOW that's what it was because everything
was fine right up until the day they installed it. My radio would drop
for about 15-20 min every morning right at 6am, when I get up and want
to listen to it. Must have been some sort of "burst communication" back
to the mothership or something... I even had a remote controlled
ceiling fan that became possessed. It would change speeds, go to full
bright, etc all by itself. LOL
