Hi all
Can anyone help please?
I have just bought the radio but transmission on this channel is blocked
" due to rights issues" which prevents me from listening to the Test
Match....I can receive it OK on my computer & laptop.
How can I receive it on the radio please?

Are you connecting via mysqueezebox.com, or do you have a local LMS
server?

Where are you located?

Install the BBC Radio Applet and play from Internet Radio/BBC
Radio/Listen Live menu. You know you have the right menu as this also
gives "Listen Again".

a. On Radio goto Settings/Advanced/Applet Installer
b. Uncheck "Recommended Applets Only"
c. Select BBC Radio.
d. Radio should reboot and now have a "BBC Radio" menu in the Internet
Radio menu. Make sure the "WMA streams" settings is off (default) at end
of BBC Radio menu.

It should work. But the message suggests that the BBC think your radio
is abroad. Are the computer and laptop going via the same router?

I guess you are trying BBC 5 Extra via the standard Radio menu option ?

Try bpa's instructions - they couldn't be more step-by-step!

The BBC geo-ip system sometimes goes wrong.

The BBC Radio Applet avoids this problem and also gives you access to
iPlayer programs.

In terms of simple steps - the radio only has one big round button to
rotate and press to select. Since you have setup the radio, you now
have the necessary skills to install the applet. It is a case of
starting at the "home" menu and rotating the button to finding the menu
and then pressing button to select. You cannot break the radio and if
you lose track go back or don't see to "home" menu and start again.

Hi all
Sorry for delay in replying, but have been away : I am still having the
same problem trying to access BBC 5 Live Extra where there ought to be
cricket commentary on the 1 day England/India match, but all I get is
pre-recorded old football/cricket chat with this " programme unavailable
due to rights issues" announcement.

I have tried to follow bpa's instructions of " On Radio goto
Settings/Advanced/Applet Installer" but can only get as far as
Radio/Settings/Advanced/.......there is no option for Applet Installer.

Any help please guys?

Have you got the UE radio ?

If so, then afaik you'll have to 'update' it to the original Radio
firmware.

Yes I have.....but how on earth do I do this update?.....I have also
contacted the Logitech Customer Support people, but apart from doing a
factory reset , they have yet to solve the problem!

First, create an account at mysqueezebox.com. You may need it later.

Second, under the Advanced menu, there should be an item to Switch to
Squeezebox - then select Free My Music

Wait and follow on screen instructions.

---------------

If you don't see the Switch option then report back here.

This is getting complex!....I have set up a squeezebox account ( I think
) but if I understand how it works, it means that IF I have the Test
Match playing on the PC , then I can get that relayed ( for want of a
better word) to the radio...is this correct?

Doesn't solve the problem of why I can't just receive it directly on the
radio, but would be a work-around.

You need to install the BBC radio applet mentioned earlier - I think the
applet is only available for the original radio firmware. So, you have
to switch your UE radio to the older radio firmware in order to install
the applet on the radio. Then you will get the radio stream direct on
the radio.

Your PC doesn't come into the equation at this stage - that only applies
if you want to run the Logitech Media Server, or want to add some
additional services to the radio.

I only suggested to have a squeezebox account active, if and when you
need to use it.

The main point is to check to see if you have the Switch to Squeezebox
option under your existing Settings - Advanced menu ... if not then
report back.

This is a Squeezebox and LMS forum so any solutions offered will be
using LMS/Squeezebox software.

Since you have UE radio and you have the original UE software, then have
you talked to Logitech support ? if so , did they point you here ?
I presume you are using the UE BBC App ?
The root cause is a BBC problem but IIRC in the past there were some
tweaks done by Logitech that may have got around the issue.

Unfortunately, uesmartradio.com and mysqueezebox.com services are down

until it is fixed.

When you are outside the UK - you will not be able to play the

IIRC there used to be some cricket on radio 4 LW (there are two internet
R4 streams) and I'm just want to make sure you are not expecting to hear
it.

could someone please explain, simply, what changing to a squeezebox from

Squeezebox is the generic name used to refer to the various players
which Logitech used to make, eg. a radio, a touchscreen player, etc.

The original radio (which looks exactly like the UE smart radio) has
software which allows it to connect to the original mysqueezebox.com
system. This software also allows the radio to connect to a local
version of the media server (Known as LMS) so you can play music files,
etc. You can also add some additional features through a system of
plugins (eg. BBC iPlayer,).

Crucially, if the remote system, such as mysqueezebox.com, goes down
then the Squeezebox (eg. radio) will still work if it's connected to the
local server.

The UE radio was largely a rebranding of the logitech system - part of
which was to 'simplify' the setup and use of the radio. Logitech dumped
all the other players and placed all their effort on the smart radio.

The big minus for the UE radio is that it is totally dependent on the
remote logitech service - as was seen this last weekend when the remote
server went down.

The UE radio also did not allow any 3rd party "applets" to be installed.
The Squeezebox supports 3rd party applets which can provide additional
feature above the standard Logitech Squeezbox. The BBC iPlayer applet
is one. There are others and not just audio such as variations of
screen layout.

Thanks..I think....and I was thinking I had just bought an internet
radio! I chose the Logitech one ( my son has one) as it has a
rechargeable battery , useful for taking around the house. I nearly got
the Roberts Internet Radio , would that have had the same difficulties?

The Robert's is a good radio BUT it's dependent on an external server
called Reciva. You have absolutely no option but to use the Reciva
service - so, if that goes down, then you get nothing.

The Logitech radio is much better in my opinion.

Hi all
Finally heard back from the Logitech Customer Support people who say :

-" Unfortunately, there is nothing much we can do here. Because we are
supporting the device not a radio station service.
"Due to Rights Restrictions, this part of the programme is unavailable".
This message is usually sent when the customers try to access a service
that is not authorised within their location.

You can contact the radio station provider to get more information. But
it's a common issue, most web station providers can add restrictions
regarding nomad device (such as Squeezebox/SmartRadio) that use an IP
different from the country the radio service is streamed."-

The implication being that the IP address for the radio is abroad , not
here in Bristol, UK, where the PC, the hub and myself are!

Anyway of changing the radio's IP address?...I gather it can be done on
PCs to get i-player abroad, for example.

This is because the Logitech server is based in Germany and it make
first contact with BBC on your behalf.

1. Logitech sorted this issue a few years ago but it looks like somebody
has undon the fix.
2. I believe you should not have this problem if you are using the BBC
iPlayer applet which I thought you installed - you then play BBC station
through the "Listen Live" menu under "BBC Radio" menu under the "Radio"
menu

There is a a possible way of bypassing the server in germany but I can't
test the URL as I am not in the UK

Create a favorite on the mysqueezebox.com with the following URL
mms://wmlive-acl.bbc.net.uk/wms/bbc_ami/radio5/5spxtra_bb_live_ep1_sl0#slim:noscan=1

Then to play r5 Extra - goto Favorites in the player and select the
entry you just made.

I thought I had installed it too....I went to http://mysqueezebox.com
and thought I had installed it...in fact when I look at "My Apps" it
does just give "BBC" and the only option is to "uninstall" which rather
implies it is installed.

Problem is, without a Test Match or a 1-Day International, it won't be
possible to check if the Rights Issue is still a problem or not.....I
can certainly get Radio 5 Live Sports Extra at the moment, but it's a
commentary on a County Match with , I presume, no Rights problem.

I set up the Favourite you mentioned , but got the warning :
"Warning: We tried to verify this stream, but were unable to connect to
the stream server. This stream may not play properly on your player.
(500 Can't connect to wmlive-acl.bbc.net.uk:80 (connect: timeout))"

But it does seem to work ok...but as above, I can't test the Rights
Issue.

So thanks for all your help, may be back in the winter when the Test
Matches /ODIs start again!

The BBC app at mysqueezebox.com is NOT the BBC Radio applet - you have
to install it on the radio itself via Settings - Advanced - Applet
Installer

Now done, thanks.....commentary on the Yorkshire vs Notts cricket
continues , but , as said before , can only really test the " Rights"
question once there is a Test Match on.

As a matter of interest , I have just had an update from the Customer
Support people who say the Logitech Servers are in the US , not Germany
, viz:

" Both servers Squeezebox.com and uesmartradio.com are located in the
US, so IP address comes from there. However TuneIn should take
consideration where the device/customer is registered in their system,
but it looks like if they are locating you in the US if you are using
uesmartradio.com and in the UK if you are using mysqueezebox.com
server.

If you would like to continue troubleshooting with uesmartradio, I would
suggest that you remoce TuneIn app from you uesmartradio.com account
including your details, and reinstall TuneIn again. It could possibly
fix this country location problem you are facing at the moment when
using uesmartradio.com"

Not sure what they mean by "Tunein App"...under "Account Settings" it is
certainly UK....but think I'll stop at the moment anyway!

Don't waste your time with Logitech support on this issue - they don't
understand the nitty gritty of this issue. Yes it is geo-ip related but
there are other issues which they don't understand.

For example, mysqueezebox.com and uesmartradio.com Logitech use an
Amazon AWS service with multiple servers around the world.

To check your server - trying pinging the www.mysqueezebox.com or
www.uesmartradio.com for me in Ireland it is as follows

Code:
--------------------

PING www.mysqueezebox.com (176.34.103.98) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from ec2-176-34-103-98.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com (176.34.103.98): icmp_seq=1 ttl=78 time=25.6 ms
^C
PING www.uesmartradio.com (54.73.1.107) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from ec2-54-73-1-107.eu-west-1.compute.amazonaws.com (54.73.1.107): icmp_seq=1 ttl=84 time=25.5 ms

--------------------

Both replies from eu-west !!!
IIRC - You can also find out which server the radio is connected to from
the Settings/Advanced/Squeezebox Information/mysqueezebox.com
information menu on the radio

Can you try the mms: URL I posted as a Favorite and see if it works.

Hi bpa
Thanks again.

In reverse order, " Settings/Advanced/Squeezebox
Information/mysqueezebox.com information menu" gives " MySB EU
West"......don't quite understand that, but it sounds like " Western
European Union"?...if so, that's not UK!

I tried the URL you suggested and reported above that I have set it up
as a Favourite and it seems to work Ok, viz :
"mms://wmlive-acl.bbc.net.uk/wms/bbc_ami/radio5/5spxtra_bb_live_ep1_sl0#slim:noscan=1"

I pinged www.mysqueezebox.com but it didn't give me any server
details....I don't seem to be able to copy & paste the ping results.

As for Logitech Support, the latest is to :
" 1. Create an account on Tunein.com (if you haven't done it already)
and check that your country location is set to UK
2. Login to your account on uesmartradio.com
3. You should see there 4 selection (click on first one)
4. You should see 'Radio TuneIn' app under My Music Services
5. Remove Tunein app
6. Reinstall TuneIn app again "

Which I have done , but no idea if it makes any difference.

I suspect I will have to await the next Test Match/One Day
Internationasl next year to see if the Rights issue is resolved.

Correct, there is no MySB.com server in the UK. This is why the GeoIP
Fencing/Blocking of that station thinks you are outside of the UK.

Sounds as if I am back to square 1 then, how can I pick up either a UK
server Or find a work-around this Rights issue?...or does the URL :
"mms://wmlive-acl.bbc.net.uk/wms/bbc_ami/radio5/5spxtra_bb_live_ep1_sl0#slim:noscan=1"
get round this issue for me?

This URL should get around the issue by giving mysqueezebox.com a single
UK specific URL (not a playlist which has multiple URLs picked depending
on the geo-ip) and adding the magic undocumented incantation "
#slim:noscan=1" created many years ago to get around this issue - it
tells the mysqueezbox.com server to let the player talk to station
first. The down side it is one WMA URL and it is possible it will
overloaded and it will break if BBC changes the URL.

The better longterm solution is to use the Triode BBC iPlayer applet
which appears as BBC Radio under Radio menu - this can play other better
audio formats not just WMA - more choice less chance of overloaded/brken
URL.

Thanks bpa, just wish I understood all this...but I have the Applet so
should be ok.

By the way. just discovered I also have the BBC iplayer....was it always
there or is it courtesy of the applet?

No iPlayer functionality in standard Radio.
The iPlayer "Listen Again" functionality is the main purpose of the
applet.

Hi, my LMS is installed on a ripnas running WHS. If LMS stops running,
squeezebox radios can be set to get radio data from server at
squeezebox.com. This seems to trigger the rights restrictions message
when you use tunein radio favourites. When you switch back to your local
LMS normal Radio 5Live service should resume. Dave

What he wants to say is this: If you run your own server using the
Logitech Media Server software and the BBC iPlayer plugin it will work.
If, however, you run your radio standalone it will be controlled by
Logitech's "MySqueezebox.com" online service which resides in Ireland
and is probably what triggers the rights restriction.

I think that if you use the iPlayer Applet (i.e. not tunein or

Having the same problem with 5Live sport I followed the steps of bpa in
post 3 and installed the applet, which shows up fine.

However, when I try and connect to any stations, either live or old, it
just hangs at 'connecting'.

I have unchecked WMA. Any suggestions? Thanks

Well. I have not progressed very far.....I still couldn't get BBC Sports

radio to factory settings).
Anyway, re-installed the Applet , I thought.....tough it refers to

I think I have success at last! We had been away for some time & I had

Anyway, now found under " My Apps" & heard the highlights ( lowlights!)

Match.
Fingers crossed & thanks for all the advice.

What are people trying to do.

Playing 5live from UK using mysb.com or using a local LMS ?

On what stream can they (assuming UK based) now hear the "live cricket"
- for example ipad ? android phone ? PC browser BBC web page ? PC using
a media player and a URL ?

Exactly. Anywhere inconvenient (PC) or with crappy sound (laptop) is
OK, but not the device specifically bought with decent audio quality
that can be moved just where you want it.

mysb.com will only work with sup[ported formats such as mp3,aac and
wma.

The m3u8 format is HDS which needs transcoding and hence you need an LMS
system.

ps: yes. All internet radios are affected (except for some Pure

You need to install LMS on a PC - go to mysqueezebox.com and download
LMS from there.

LMS downloaded , but think I had it already...anyway, the URL mentioned
above now added , so perhaps I didn't have the latest version. I did get
a warning saying :

"Warning: We tried to verify this stream, but were unable to connect to
the stream server. This stream may not play properly on your player.
(500 Can't connect to mms::80 (Bad hostname))"

So fingers crossed, will need to await a World Cup Match to test it
though.

PS...does this mean that the radio can pick up music recorded on the PC?

Not good news...LMS downloaded, URL set up....but when I tuned in this
morning, all I got was " Getting stream info..." and then
nothing!.....the radio was showing the URL OK.

Any other ideas please?

Which url are you using?

Where are you entering the url?

Have you installed the PlayHLS plugin?

URL was :
http://a.files.bbci.co.uk/media/live/manifesto/audio/simulcast/hls/uk/sbr_high/ak/bbc_radio_five_live_sports_extra.m3u8

This was entered into myqueezebox.com , under Favourites.

See

What platform are you using for LMS ?
Some NAS are not capable of playing HSL streams.

Well, I looked at the ref and saw :

"The plugin can be installed using LMS and this 3rd party repository.
http://bpaplugins.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/repo-playhls.xml "

But how do I install this on LMS? when I open the LMS Control Panel?
There doesn't seem to be anything suitable.

No idea what platform I am using for LMS....do you mean what version of
windows? if so, it's still XP.

Don't know what NAS is either.

Sorry, bit of a non-techie!

Well, since you didn't give any info about your system in the first
place - I have to make an assumption.

Windows XP is OK.

You may look at this Windows PlayHLS installation post which has
pictures
http://forums.slimdevices.com/showthread.php?103143-The-New-HSL-files-on-windows-PC&p=807195&viewfull=1#post807195

To get the HLS stream you need twoparts
1. PlayHLS plugin installedin LMS
2. ffpmeg installed to support the plugin.

Step 1 - How to install PlayHLS plugin.
1. Using PC Browser open a Web GUI Settings Windows and click on Plugins
Tab.
2. Scroll down the page and beside "Additional repositories" past the
following URL into an empty box
http://bpaplugins.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/repo-playhls.xml and click
Apply
3. You should now have an entry for PlayHLS plugin and an unchecked
check box . Check the "enable" box on the same lines as the PlayHLS
plugin and click Apply.
4. I don't know about windows but LMS needs to be restarted and you may
need to do that from the LMS Control panel.

Step 2.

1. You need ffmpeg.exe on your system. To install that you may need to
install 7Zip utility which can be found here http://www.7-zip.org
2. The ffmpeg.exe can be found here - http://ffmpeg.zeranoe.com/builds/
Download the relevent file and use 7zip to unpack.
3. Use windows to find the faad.exe and sox.exe in your LMS
installation. It will be a directory something like C:\Program Files
(x86)\Squeezebox\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread
Copy the downbloaded ffmpeg.exe into the LMS Bin directory alongside
faad.exe.

Step 3. Checkingthat Plugin is installed
1. Restart LMS.from control panel
2. After LMS has restarted, on the LMS WebGui; go to 'Settings', and
select the 'Plugins' tab. Check the PlyHLS plugis is enabled - if not
check the enable box and click Apply.
3. Check that Plugin has been installed correctly by looking LMS WebGui;
go to 'Settings", and then select "Advanced".
Select "File Types" from the drop down box on Top Right. Scroll down
until you see "Apple HLS m3u8" there should be a entries with "ffmpeg".
They should not be greyed out or disabled.

Thanks bpa....step 1 completed, but step 2 points 2 and 3 have defeated
me!

As an aside, I noticed in the PlugIns tab that the BBC iplayer wasn't
enabled...I ticked it, but it hasn't made any difference ; the iplayer
just says " connecting" and hangs.

Geoff,

IMO 7-Zip is a bit fiddly to use if you aren't used to it. This was an
"explanation" I did for somebody else - though I it might have left them
non the wiser:
Open 7-Zip
Double click on the folder icon towards the left of the long blank space
towards the top (within the space)
Select the folder that contains the downloaded file you want to unzip -
find the file and click on it to highlight it
Click on the "- Extract" button

The LMS Web GUI is accessed using a PC browser and URL
http://localhost:9000 if LMS is running on the same PC

Does your File Types screen look like this for the Apple HLS m3u8
section
http://i821.photobucket.com/albums/zz140/Maninavan1/LMS/ffmpeg_zpspmddz7br.jpg

In the Apple HSL m3u8 section to the right of Flac - what is displayed ?

OK - this means either

(i) ffmpeg.exe is not installed in the right place
or
(ii) ffmpeg.exe does not run

What is the full directory path of the ffmpeg.exe file.
What other files are in this directory ?

You copied the whole ffmpeg directory tree and files instead of just the
one ffmpeg.exe file.

The ffmpeg.exe file should be in the directory C:\Program
Files\Squeezebox\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\

In the same directory as ffmpeg.exe there should be faad.exe and
flac.exe

I don't mean to cross wires, but I'm just wondering whether it might be
easier for you to try Triode's BBCiPlayer (alpha) plugin rather than
wrestle with ffmpeg? Have a look at the BBCiPlayer thread in 3rd Party
Plugins.

I couldn't find a step-by-step guide so try this:

On the main LMS web page, click "Settings" (bottom RHS of main screen)
then click the "Plugins" tab.
Scroll to the bottom of Plugins, enter this URL
(http://triodeplugins.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/testrepo.xml) into the
Additional Repositories box, then click "Apply" (bottom RHS of screen).
You should then see a line appear towards the bottom of the Plugins page
called "Triode's Squeezecenter Plugins (Test Versions)" with a plugin
called BBC iPlayer (v1.3.1alpha2).
Put a tick mark next to the plugin and click "Apply" (bottom RHS of
screen), and allow the server to restart when the request screen pops
up.
Upon restart, you should find BBC iPlayer on the main screen under
Radio; click on it, then Listen Live, then BBC Radio 5 Sports.

Hopefully I haven't overlooked anything major! Good luck.

Well, thought I would give this a go , if only as a change!

I think I have installed it Ok....

I can see "Triode's Squeezecenter Plugins (Test Versions)" at the
bottom, but there doesn't seem to be anything there : there are headings
of Enable, Name, Description,Author" but they are all blank.

Having said that, at the top there is " BBC iplayer version 1.3.1 alpha
2" , and it is enabled.....so perhaps it is OK?

However, I can't see BBC iPlayer on the main screen under radio, neither
can I get the iplayer to work ( it just says connecting and hangs ) and
neither, of course, can I get any cricket on Radio5 Sports Live Extra.

To be honest, I just don't understand bpa's latest advice!

One more try - If I read your post correctly

On your system the ffmpeg.exe file is in
C:\Program
Files\Squeezebox\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\ffmpeg-20150312-git-3bedc99-win32-static\bin

ffmpeg.exe should be this directory besides faad.exe, sox.exe and
flac.exe
C:\Program Files\Squeezebox\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\

If you do not have an ffmpeg.exe in the C:\Program
Files\Squeezebox\server\Bin\MSWin32-x86-multi-thread\ffmpeg-20150312-git-3bedc99-win32-static\bin
direfctory then you have either renamed it or put it sdomewhere else.
In this case get a new copy of the ffmpeg.,exe file from the zip file
you downloded.

hi Man In Van aka Ronnie?

Well, I managed to get something like your screendump on the PC only to
met with the usual " Due to rights restrictions, programme is

I can get Radio 5 Sports Extra on my PC directly from the BBC website,

Geoff, where do you live (approx) and which ISP provides your internet?
(this might be in the thread, but I'm tired)

Geoff, I have been reading through the thread (sigh )

and have concluded that a visit from the Doctor is in order :)

So; I can send you an rpi2 with a pre installed Max2Play OS, complete
with LMS v.7.9 and fully tweaked. (It will take me a couple of days to
prepare)

You would have to then connect it to your router, connect your radio and
play.

Or, I can come and visit next Sat May 30th and show you how to set it
up.

Or you can come up to me and I'll do the same at my place.

whaddaya tink?

atb

Ronnie.

I checked the ffmeg-20150312-glt-3bedc99-win32-staticf download - what
you say is executanle is a directory. the ffm, peg.,exe file is in the
bin direcotry of the ffmeg-20150312-glt-3bedc99-win32-staticf
fdirefctory.

You need to find the ffmpeg.exe file in the original download and copy
into the direcotry with faad.exe and flac.,exe. If you have somehow
renamed it or moved ffmpeg.exe elsewhere - then I suggest get a clean
download and start again.

Given the difficulty you had so far - you may need to think hard about
installing an alpha state plugin and starting again since you are only
one file away.
